Practices For Presence: Curiosity

9 Practices For Presence- Curiosity

Develop Curiosity:

Hold a Beginner’s Mind. If I start every interaction, every study or learning with the idea that I don’t have all the answers, I open up to being surprised and transformed by new information. Taking it a step further, if I can receive information without having to embed it in a context and category I’m familiar with––as in: “Is it like…?”–– then I am in a position to expand my consciousness and experience base.

While it can be helpful to make connections between different information and ideas, starting with an open slate allows me to be present to a new thought, before integrating it.

The experience of having my Natural Number identified was a great example of a time when curiosity was of service.  If I had used my observer to analyze and judge a situation while it was occurring, or tried to make sense of what I was experiencing in terms of what I already knew, I might have become very uncomfortable and confused during the experience, and I might have missed certain critical aspects of the experience.  Learning to hold an experience from a beginners mind enables us to learn new things.

When I first learned about my Natural Number it was part of a Leadership Program offered by Coach Training Institute, one of the leading Life Coach training schools.  I was in a very open state, full of curiosity and feeling very much like a beginner at life.  The experience of feeling my chest activate, and then the subsequent magical energy bursts that I experienced as the other 23 people in the room were identified was so powerful that I knew through the body experience that this was a brand new and very significant experience for me to be with.  This allowed the experience to land in my body without allowing my conscious mind to explain it away as something that I already understood. If I had not been so wide open I might not have experienced the magic of the opening of the Natural Number of the other participants.

Curiosity helps us experience so much more, it makes each day fun and exciting.  How will curiosity change your day today?  Let us know – comment here or on the Facebook Group
